| Jeep tour business marks anniversary | |
|
Earth Wisdom Jeep Tours is celebrating its 10 year
anniversary December 23 at Rollies Camera Courtyard. Located in the heart of Uptown Sedona at the new crosswalk planter, the small-town feeling of courtyard hospitality has plenty of benches and is an ideal setting to invite friends for an open house. Sample Sally's gourmet coffee and famous expresso coffee cake at Home on the Porch. Enjoy harp music with Alethia Holt and Peter Sterling from 2 to 5 p.m., which inaugurates a monthly gathering of local oratory, literary and musical talent, Open Harps, in the courtyard. Back in 1990, Marty and Magdalena Wolf shared a vision of a revolutionary tour company that incorporates the education of the total person, body, mind and soul. When FS issued their permits they were elated. This allowed EWJT to satisfy a growing market niche of activities invoving fitness through hiking, learning through scenic touring and contemplative reflection through spiritual touring. LITTLE DID they know that they were years ahead of their time. The emphasis of natural quiet and sacred beauty on spiritual tours is now reflected, 10 years later, as a major management theme of the Forest Service's Amendment 12. Later, chamber of commerce surveys showed that 64% of tourists surveyed cited spiritual reasons prompting their visits. Writing about EWJT in 1997, USA Today stated, "People are choosing vacations that offer more than a change of scenery and connect them to what's inside as well as what's outside." They are also teaming up with Arizona University graduate students who are writing masters theses highlighting the type of tourism Earth Wisdom Tours has pioneered during the last 10 years. Wolf has also been an essential part of the past chamber president's public relations toolbox. He has successfully bridged many travel writer's inquires about the energy vortexes by relating them to the timeless understandings of traditional cultures' power places and pilgrimage sites revered and shared by peoples the world over. Now all this publicity from Arizona Highways, USA Today and numerous travel writers posed an interesting challenge for their seasoned guides and marketing team. How does one overcome the perception that they also offer more than just the spiritual hiking and touring. |

WHEN IN FACT,
they offer great sightseeing jeep tours just like the other companies
with one interesting twist -- exclusive private sites and a reputation
for that personal touch. EWJT found it necessary to insure that the
growing demand for natural quiet, seclusion and solitude that built
their educational reputation (whether on foot, in meditation or on
jeeps) would be maintained during all the changes that Sedona is
facing. |
